Biography

“Young soprano Anna Lucia Richter sings two arias by Händel with a wonderfully light, floating, lucent intonation and at the same time tender expression. Singing like a prayer: it takes your breath away. The promising future has already begun.”
FAZ, Gerhard Rohde, 17. Juli 2012 – “Here you can already hear the stars of tomorrow“.

Anna Lucia Richter descends of a family of professional musicians. Since the age of nine she received singing lessons from her mother Regina Dohmen and became member of the Girls´ Choir of the Cologne cathedral. From 2004 to 2008 she received regular lessons with Prof. Kurt Widmer, Basel. Following her early studies with Mrs. Prof. Klesie Kelly-Moog at the Cologne Music Academy she continued her studies in Cologne and finished her advanced study period in the summer of 2013. The artist won prizes at the National Song Contest in Berlin (2. prize, junior category 2008), the Luitpold Prize at the Kissinger Summer Festival 2011 and the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Prize in 2011. In 2012 she won the International Robert-Schumann Contest in Zwickau.

Despite of her young age the artist already often performs. During engagements, for instance, with Cologne's Gürzenich Orchestra, with the hr Symphony Orchestra, with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, with the Düsseldorf Symphonic Orchestra and also with the WDR Radio Orchestra under the baton of Markus Stenz,  Paavo and Kristjan Järvi, Marin Alsop, Helmut Froschauer or Christoph Altstaedt she sang works of Bach (St. Johns Passion and St. Matthew’s Passion), Händel (Messias), Brahms (Ein Deutsches Requiem), Mozart (C-Minor Mass), Grieg (Peer Gynt) and Mahler's Symphony N° 4 and N° 8). She also performs operatic works: the soprano singer for instance performed in Hänsel and Gretel (Sandmann/Taumann), Le nozze di Figaro (Barbarina) and Don Giovanni (Zerlina) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf / Duisburg.

Anna Lucia Richter is passionately fond of songs. She already has a wide variety of repertoire and regularly sings recitals, for instance at the Kissinger Summer Festival, at the Heidelberg Spring Festival and in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall. Recently she replaced with great success Véronique Gens in a last-minute engagement at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. She is accompanied by Moritz Eggert,  Michael Gees,  Hartmut Höll, Igor Levit, Nicholas Rimmer and Gerold Huber. At his festival in Vicenza she performs regularly with András Schiff. Apart from the standard repertoire the artist also enjoys including contemporary compositions into her song programmes: for instance the world premiere of Moritz Eggert´s Singet leise and the cyclus Ophelia Sings by Wolfgang Rihm, which he specially composed for her.

Anna Lucia Richter starts the current season with her US debut at Park Avenue Armory in New York performing three recitals accompanied by Gerold Huber. Further recitals at the Ruhrtriennale and at the Oxford Lieder Festival are to follow. Numerous concert engagements take her to Budapest (Händel: Apollo e Dafne with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Jonathan Cohen) and on a tour across the US under Iván Fischer (Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night's Dream). She performs Bach cantatas with the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne, with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra at the Musikfest Stuttgart and with the RIAS Kammerchor.  Furthermore she sings Ninetta in a concert performance of Mozart’s La finta semplice with the Munich Rundfunkorchester under the baton of Christopher Hogwood. On the operatic stage she can be seen and heard as Eurydike and La Musica in a version of Monteverdi`s Orfeo produced by Sasha Waltz with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra in Amsterdam, Luxemburg, Baden-Baden and Berlin.
